This canvas was painted during the year 2023, at a time when the furrow of my aesthetic research became even more precise.
In the foreground, we see a large lady wearing one of those smocks that hairdressers lend, her hair disheveled, her tongue sticking out. To her left (to our right), is a hairdresser, his fists raised upwards as if to cry victory, his mouth completely taken by the handle of a hairdryer, his eyes in orbits. Behind the two subjects, a rather orderly hairdressing salon. On one of the walls, a clock without hands, on which hangs a brown wig.
Is it not a waste of time to fight against what naturally changes?
The desire to chase after ephemeral aesthetic trends, the unbridled desire to rejuvenate oneself, at the expense of a bloated, artificial appearance, seems to me to be a subject worth exploring.
I therefore adopt a mocking tone towards certain contemporary practices, such as the democratization of cosmetic surgery, hyper-consumption, etc. These are unfortunate subjects, as we know, but which push me to take up the brush to extract the laughable, buffoonish facets, even if it means suggesting an offbeat, more childish look at what punctuates our daily lives.
